Nestcam 2006.2 :( There are no chicks in the nest and it is abandoned. I am not sure what happened, but this nest has been strange from the start. First, there was only one chick for many days, and it acted different than normal chicks. Much later there were two more chicks, but very much smaller than the one large one. Perhaps the other was a cowbird, but I do not know if they live here. Then, it became much hotter than normal the last few days - up to 100°F / 38°C, and the nest could be even hotter. The nest is in a location that normal predators cannot go, so I don't think this is what happened. Given any scenario, I am surprised that the nest is completely empty. Perhaps they intend to re-use it... I know this is bad news but already there has been 5 healthy chicks this year. There is another nesting location, so I will keep watch to see if there is any new activity. Thanks for watching! |
